The College of William & Mary is a public research university founded in 1693 under a royal charter issued by King William III and Queen Mary II. It is the second oldest institution of higher education in the United States.

During the Colony, Williamsburg functioned as its capital and, until 1780, it was the capital of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Williamsburg is part of the Virginia Historic Triangle along with Jamestown, first permanent English settlement in the New World, and Yorktown, place of the last land battle of the American Revolution.

Williamsburg is located about 150 miles south of Washington, D.C., and midway between Richmond and Norfolk on Interstate 64. It is home to an award-winning theme park, several recreation opportunities and the world's largest living history museum. Learn more at visitwilliamsburg.com.
